Recovery Guide
Restore your Frostsnap wallet or recover individual devices
Understanding Threshold Recovery
Frostsnap uses threshold multisignature technology. Your wallet has a threshold (e.g. 2-of-3) which means:
- - There are a total of 3 keys belonging to this wallet.
- - You need any 2 of those keys to access your wallet.
- - Each device, or its backup, controls one of those keys.
Wallet Recovery Process
The Frostsnap app provides a unified recovery process where you can restore your wallet using a combination of devices that hold keys and recovery cards.
What you'll need
- The Frostsnap app on your phone or computer
-
Enough unique keys to meet your wallet's threshold, with any mix of:
- - Frostsnap devices
- - Physical backup recovery cards
- If you're restoring from physical backups, you'll need a blank device to recover each backup onto.
Recovery Steps:
Open the Frostsnap App
Launch the Frostsnap app on your phone or computer and select Restore Wallet.
Add your first key
First, if you have any existing Frostsnap devices that hold a key for this wallet then select Existing Key.
- - Simply connect the device when prompted. The app will recognise it as holding a key to the wallet.
If you have no existing devices and only have recovery cards, then begin with Physical Backup.
- - Connect a blank device and follow the prompts to enter the backup from your recovery card into the device.
Important: Never enter your recovery card information on any website, phone, or computer. Recovery phrases should only be entered directly on your Frostsnap hardware device.
Add more keys
Select Restore Another Key and repeat the process. Continue adding keys until you reach your threshold.
Finish restoration
Once you have added a threshold number of keys, your wallet can be restored. It is recommended that you continue adding any additional keys beyond the threshold so that they too can be used for signing.
